Furman To Face Florida Sunday

Gators Mark Paladins' Third SEC Foe This Season

Lauren Bailey
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman will face its third Southeastern Conference opponent of the 2025-26 season on Sunday when it takes on Florida in a 2:00 p.m. contest at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida.

The game will be televised over the SEC Network+, and fans can also follow the action via Sidearm live stats and receive timely updates and highlight clips thru @FurmanWBB's "X" account.  Links to the livestream and stats are available on Furman's women's basketball schedule page at FurmanPaladins.com

Winners of four of its last five games, in a 66-53 road triumph over Charleston Southern on Dec. 19, Furman (6-6) pre-Christmas slate included SEC foes Georgia and Vanderbilt this season.  Florida (11-3) dropped a 74-67 verdict to Tulsa in its last outing.

The Gators have won all three meetings in the series, including a 77-50 triumph in Gainesville during the 2022-23 campaign.

Furman boasts a trio of sophomore double figure scorers, led by forward Clare Coyle (14.4 ppg), who also tops the Southern Conference in rebounding (7.7 rpg).  A Jacksonville, Fla., product (Bishop Kenny HS), she tallied a team high 19 points in the win over Charleston Southern.

Alyssa Ervin (11.7 ppg), a transfer guard from Elon, has provided spark off the bench, and rounding out the Paladins in double figures is guard Raina McGowens (10.7 ppg).

Lauren Bailey (6.3 ppg), a junior transfer from Gardner-Webb, has given the Paladins their best 3-point shooting threat (37.1%).  Chantelle Stuart (6.2 ppg), meanwhile, has proven effective since her return from injury that sidelined her for three games.  Her 5.7 assists per gane clip tops all league point guards.

Freshman Sophia Pearl (5.8 ppg) has delivered quality play at the point in Stuart's absence and is averaging 17.4 minutes of action per game.

Stuart's return has helped the Paladins continue their improvement in ballhanding, which was a significant issue in the early going.  After averaging 21.8 miscues per game over the first nine games, Furman has committed 42 turnovers (14.0 avg.) over the last three outings.

Furman wraps up its 2025 schedule on Tuesday when it returns home to take on Brevard in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
