CLEMSON, S.C. -- Furman freshman Leland Bishop established a new school record in the men's 200m, and sophomore Claire Cook won the 600m with a program-record time to lead the Paladin indoor track and field teams at the Clemson Opener Friday in Clemson, S.C.

Bishop, a native of Concord, N.C., posted a time of 22.27 in the 200m, breaking a 33-year-old record of 22.30, which was set by Brad Stephens in 1992.  Bishop finished 22nd in the event. 

A native of Austin, Texas, Cook took gold in the 600m with a time of 1:30.92, taking almost four seconds off her own previous school record of 1:34.28, which she set at the same meet last year.

Senior Camryn Wennersten won the women's mile with a time of 4:49.87, while senior Clair Garrett turned in a time of 5:16.47 for second place in the event. 

The Furman men placed four runners among the top six in the 3,000m.  Junior Owen Shifflett won the event with a time of 8:19.61, while freshman Zach Youngblood placed third at 8:28.17.  Sophomore Alex Friedli finished fourth with a time of 8:34.28, and freshman Jack Wallace was sixth at 8:38.82.

Sophomore Delaney Vickers led the Paladin women in the 3,000m, finishing fourth with a time of 9:57.47.  Sophomore Joiner Evans placed fifth at 9:58.44, and sophomore Katie Sobieraj crossed the line in 10:12.14 for seventh place. 

In other men's events, Bishop finished 22nd in the 60m at 7.11, while freshman Luke Millman was 27th in the event at 7.18.  Sophomore Joe Womack placed 29th in the 200m with a time of 22.69, followed by Milman in 30th at 23.30.  Sophomore Owen Delaney turned in a time of 23.51 for 31st.

Select members of the Paladin team will compete at the Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Mass., on Saturday.  On Sunday, various members of the men's team will run at the JDL Early Bird Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
