Greenville, S.C. – Furman opens a two-game men's basketball homestand on Wednesday when the Paladins welcome the Mercer Bears to Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Tip-off for Wednesday's game, sponsored by Hale's Jewelers, is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase at
FurmanPaladins.com. Wednesday is "Throwback Night" at the Well and fans can purchase $1 hotdogs and $1 popcorn at the Piedmont Grill on the concourse across from section 119.
The Furman-Mercer game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can listen to the action on The Fan Upstate at 97.7 FM and 1330 AM in Greenville, 97.1 FM and 1490 AM in Spartanburg, and via the Audacy app. Links for the broadcast, live audio, and live statistics are available at FurmanPaladins.com.
Furman enters Wednesday night at 18-7 overall and 6-6 in league play. The Paladins are tied for sixth place in the Southern Conference with VMI and hold a two-game lead on eighth-place Mercer (11-14, 4-8 SoCon). The top six teams in the final SoCon standings receive a first-round bye in the SoCon Men's Basketball Championship, which is slated for March 7-10 at Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville in Asheville, N.C.
The Paladins hold a 28-12 series lead in 40 previous meetings versus Mercer, including a 79-74 triumph in the first meeting of the year between the teams on January 25 in Macon, Ga.
Nick Anderson poured in a team-high 18 points while
Eddrin Bronson and
PJay Smith Jr. added 16 and 15 points, respectively, in the first meeting. Furman has won 19 of the last 21 encounters versus Mercer and prevailed in eight of the last nine played in Greenville.
NOTE: Furman's home contest versus UNC Greensboro, scheduled for Saturday, February 15, at Bob Secours Wellness Arena, has been moved to a noon tip-off.
