Rio Grande, Puerto Rico -- Sophomore Audrey Ryu (-1) tied for 11th to pace the Furman women's golf team Tuesday in the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic, which was hosted by Purdue at the par 72, 6,305 yard Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
A native of Dublin, Ohio, Ryu started on No. 12 in the shotgun start. She birdied No. 2 then added consecutive birdies on her final two holes, No. 10 and No. 11, to finish the round with a 75. She ended the tournament eight strokes behind the individual medalist, Maria Jose Marin (-9) of Arkansas, who tallied a three-round total of 71-68-68=207 to win the tournament by two strokes.
Senior Alise Knudson (+9) and freshman Eva Ringwald (+9) tied for 61st. Knudson birdied three out of her first four holes and led the Paladins at even par, while Ringwald added a 77 in Tuesday's round. Sophomore Kelsi Mauzy (+13) tied for 81st with a 78 in round three, and freshman Jenna Madden (+19) recorded three birdies to score a 75 on Tuesday, tying for 92nd.
Arkansas (-19) cruised to a 13-stroke victory after smoking the field at 15-under Tuesday. Vanderbilt (-6) and Ole Miss (-6) tied for second, while Northwestern (-3) took fourth. Michigan State (+2) rounded out the top five. The Paladins (+27) finished 14th in the loaded field.
Furman will compete at the MountainView Collegiate, March 2-4, in Tucson, Ariz.
