GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman's Matthew Smith and Megan Marvin have been named the Southern Conference men's and women's indoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday. Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all competition from Jan. 29 – Feb. 4.
Smith competed in the Gamecock Challenge hosted by South Carolina on Feb. 1, where he finished second in the mile with a time of 4:00.38. His performance is the fastest time in the SoCon this season.
During Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational on Feb. 1, Marvin finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:06.36. This time leads the SoCon this season and places Marvin 45th in the NCAA in the event. Also running the 1,200 leg of the distance medley relay, Marvin helped the squad to a second-place finish with a time of 11:20.25, which established a new program record in the event.
Furman returns to competition in Boston, Mass., for the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational on Feb. 8.
