CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Furman track and field team garnered gold medals in the men's 1,500m and the men's and women's 5,000m this weekend at the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center in Charlotte, N.C.

Senior Sierra Bower took first place in the women's 5,000m with a tie of 16:33.99.  Freshman Elly Velasquez finished fourth at 16:49.32, and sophomore Zoie Lamanna placed seventh with a personal-best time of 16:52.60.  Sophomore Joiner Evans turned in a time of 18:11.90 for 20th place.

Graduate student Bryn Woodall won the men's 1,500m with a personal-best time of 3:39.91.  Freshman Ty Jones placed 20th in the event with a time of 3:53.09, followed by junior Brayden Seymour in 21st at 3:53.45.  Junior Trevor Coggin finished 28th with a PR of 3:56.65.

In the men's 5,000m, graduate student Evan Guzman finished first with a time of 14:23.41.  In other men's events, senior Colton Kempney placed fifth with a time of 9:15.87 in the 3,000m Steeplechase, while sophomore Alex Friedli was eighth in the event at 9:24.91.  Sophomore Joe Womack turned in a time of 49.13 for 15th in the 400m, and sophomore Owen Delaney and freshman Luke Milman finished back to back in 19th (11.35) and 20th place (11.37), respectively, in the 100m. 

Also for the women, freshman Tara Watkins posted a time of 2:17.10 for 12th place in the 800m, and freshman Kate Bannigan finished 15th in the 1,500m with a PR of 4:43.60.  Senior Clair Garrett placed 18th in the 1,500m at 4:47.84.
