GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team will tip off the second half of its Southern Conference schedule on Saturday when it plays host to Wofford in a 2:00 p.m. contest at BSW Arena.
The ESPN+ live streamed contest will also include StatBroadcast live stats, with links to both available on the women's basketball schedule page at FurmanPaladins.com.
Furman will honor six players prior to Saturday's contest, including graduate guards
Tate Walters and
Bella LaChance, senior forwards
Kate Johnson and
Jada Session, and redshirt junior guards
Jaelyn Acker and
Niveya Henley.
Furman (12-11, 2-5 SoCon) dropped the season's first encounter with Wofford (14-6, 6-1 SoCon), 68-51, in Spartanburg on Jan. 12 due to a blistering 14-of-29 3-point shooting performance by the Terriers, who come to Greenville a half game out of first place.Â
Wofford paced the league for much of the first half until falling to East Tennessee State, 63-50, last Saturday in Spartanburg. The Terriers have managed to remain competitive despite losing 2023-24 SoCon Player of the Year Rachael Rose to injury.Â
The Paladins, who are coming off a 68-60 home loss to Chattanooga, have dropped eight of their last 11 games. Injuries have also played a part in Furman's season, most notably the loss of starting redshirt junior guard
Niveya Henley, who was sidelined for the season in late December with a knee injury after averaging a solid 11.7 ppg over the first 14 games.
Furman is led by Walters, who ranks fourth in the SoCon in scoring (13.1 ppg) and second with 97 assists. Â The Buford, Ga., product enters the contest ranked 20th on the program's scoring ledger with 1,171 points and second in assists with 431.
Johnson, who has battled injury that forced her to sit out recent games at Samford and Mercer, is averaging 11.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg while shooting 61.6 percent from the field.
Junior guard/forward Sidney Ryan (10.7 ppg) scored a team leading 15 points against Chattanooga.
Session, who missed the season's first 10 games following an off-season injury, has contributed 8.8 ppg and 5.3 rpg over 13 contests.
The Paladins have gotten notable play from a trio of freshmen, including guard
Raina McGowens (7.4 ppg), who tallied 12 points versus Chattanooga, forward
Clare Coyle, who has tallied 40 points and 24 rebounds over the last four games, and guard
Chantelle Stuart, who recently moved into the starting lineup and has 65 assists on the season, good for second on the squad.
Furman holds a commanding 49-17 edge in the all-time series with Wofford, including a 30-2 mark versus the Terriers in Greenville. Â Wofford, however, has had the upper hand of late, winning six of the last eight clashes.
