Furman Softball Drops Midweek Game At Clemson, 12-0

Paladins Host Charlotte Wednesday At 4 P.M.

Clemson, S.C. – Clemson totaled 12 runs on 14 hits over five innings to cruise to a 12-0 victory over Furman in midweek softball action Wednesday night at McWhorter Stadium in Clemson, S.C.

After Furman stranded runners on the corners in the top of the first, Clemson grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning. Starter Lily O'Bryan retired the first two batters before a pair of two-out walks set the table for Sam Minish to put the Tigers on top with an RBI doubled to left-center.

Furman loaded the bases with a single and two walks against Macey Cintron in the top of the second, forcing Clemson to the bullpen, but Reese Basinger came on to strikeout Kate Stoltzfus to end another Paladin threat. The Tigers immediately added to their lead in the bottom of the frame. Alex Brown followed back-to-back singles with an RBI double before Maddie Moore batted in a run with an RBI ground out and Julia Knowler knocked in the Tigers fourth run on an infield single.

Clemson (15-6) continued to add to their lead with five runs in the third inning. Ava Wilson and Aby Viera opened the inning with bunt singles and Marian Collins followed with a three-run blast to right field to up the margin to 7-0 and chase reliever Isabella Cear. The Tigers scratched across two more runs in the bottom of the frame against Furman right-hander Taylor Miller.

Haylee Whitesides added a two-run blast as the Tigers scored three two-out runs in the fourth for the final 12-0 scoreline.

Reese Basinger picked up the win for Clemson to improve to 5-2 in the circle. She tossed 2.2 scoreless innings. Collins went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to pace the Clemson offense.

O'Bryan suffered the loss for Furman after allowing four runs on four hits in 1.2 innings. The loss dropped the freshman to 0-4 on the season.

The Paladins (7-15) are back in action tomorrow when they host the Charlotte 49ers at 4 p.m. at Pepsi Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans can follow live statistics via StatBroadcast at FurmanPaladins.com.
