GREENSBORO, Ga. – Senior Trey Diehl (-1) fired an opening round 71 to tie for 13th to lead the Furman (E) men's golf team in Sunday's opening round of the 2025 Southern Conference Championship at par 72, 7,231 yard The Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.
Diehl, a native of Orlando, Fla., birdied No. 6 and No. 7 to turn at 1-under then added birdies on No. 10 and No. 17 on the back. He sits five strokes back of Chattanooga's Garrett Engle (-6), who leads the field after shooting a 66 in round one.
Senior Will Morlan (E) and freshman Ludvig Josefsson (E) are tied for 17th after each carded a 72 on Sunday. Morlan recorded four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 9 and No. 10, and Josefsson added three birdies in the opening round.
Junior Harris Barth (+1) is tied for 24th after shooting a 73 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 10, and junior Clark Akers (+3) opened the tournament with a 75 with three birdies.
UNC Greensboro (-11) leads the tournament by three strokes over East Tennessee State (-8). Chattanooga (-3) sits in third, while Western Carolina (-1) is in fourth place. The Paladins are tied for fifth with Mercer (E).
The second round of the tournament begins at 9 a.m. Monday with twosomes starting on No. 1 and No. 10. The Paladins will begin on hole No. 10 at 9 a.m. and will play in a group with Mercer in the tournament's second round.
The team winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional, while the individual champion will also earn automatic regional qualification.
