Furman's Morlan Moves Into A Tie For Seventh At SoCon Championship

GREENSBORO, Ga. – Senior Will Morlan (-3) carded a 69 to move into a tie for seventh place to pace the Furman (-8) men's golf team after Monday's second round of the 2025 Southern Conference Championship at par 72, 7,231 yard The Oconee Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.

A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Morlan teed off on No. 10 and birdied three holes on the back to turn at 3-under.  He parred out on the front to finish the round six strokes behind individual leader Colin Dutton (-9) of UNCG, who has a two-round total of 69-66=135.

The Paladins have three players among the top 15 after shooting an 8-under 280 on Monday.  Furman was 9-under over the round's final six holes to move into fourth place, just six shots behind leaders East Tennessee State (-14) and UNC Greensboro (-14).  Western Carolina (-10) sits in third place with 18 to play.  

Junior Clark Akers (-2) fired a 67 in round two to lead the Paladins.  He birdied No. 18 and turned at even par then went on a tear over his final six holes, birdieing three of the six and adding an eagle on the par-5 No. 7.  Akers is tied for 11th entering Tuesday's final round.  

Senior Trey Diehl (-1) shot even par and birdied three out of four holes from No. 4 through No. 7 to tie for 15th, while junior Harris Barth (+1) and freshman Ludvig Josefsson (+1) are tied for 22nd.  Barth posted a team-high five birdies, including three-straight birdies from No. 6 through No. 8, to finish the day with an even 72, and Josefsson recorded a 73 with birdies on No. 10 and No. 17. 

The final round of the tournament starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday with twosomes starting on No. 1 and No. 10.  The Paladins will tee off on hole No. 1 starting at 8:05 a.m. and will play in a group with Western Carolina in round three.

The team winner of the SoCon Championship will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional, while the individual champion will also earn automatic regional qualification.
