CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Furman's Audrey Ryu (E) is in the clubhouse in a tie for 24th at Friday's opening round of the 2025 NCAA Championship, which is being contested this weekend at the par-72, 6,330 yard Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
A sophomore from Dublin, Ohio, Ryu played flawless golf on the front nine with birdies on No. 6 and No. 9 to turn at 2-under. She parred eight holes on the back nine to finish the round with an even 72. Ryu is five strokes behind individual leader Bailey Davis (-5) of Tennessee, who fired a 67 in the opening round to lead the morning wave of players.
Ryu will tee off on No. 10 at 5:02 p.m. ET in the afternoon wave of Saturday's second round and will play in a group that includes individuals Sofia Barroso Sá of TCU and Florida Gulf Coast's Lousiane Gauthie.
Ryu advanced to the NCAA Championship after tying for seventh at the NCAA Normal Regional. At last month's SoCon Championship, she establishing a new league championship record with an opening-round 66 and went on to capture individual medalist honors. Ryu led the league with 72.5 stroke average over 31 rounds this season to earn her second-consecutive all-conference scroll. In 11 events during the 2024-25 season, she recorded five top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the Evie Odom Invitational and a fifth-place finish at the Landfall Tradition. A concert pianist and a biology major with a 4.0 GPA, Ryu, who captured her first career individual win at the SoCon tournament, was also honored with the 2025 SoCon Pinnacle Award, given annually to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on the championship team. Â
A field of 30 teams and six individuals is playing 54 holes of stroke play over the course of three days, beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday. The top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will then play one additional round of stroke play on Monday. An individual champion will be crowned after 72 holes of competition.Â
No. 24 Vanderbilt (-6) shot 6-under in the morning wave to lead 25th-ranked Oklahoma State (-4) by two strokes. Â
