Ivan Horvat was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week and selected to the
Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week while forward
Caleb Johnson earned SoCon Offensive Player of the Week accolades, it was announced on Tuesday.
Horvat, a native of Bratislava, Slovakia, recorded eight saves in a 0-0 draw at No. 5 Virginia Tech before stopping six shots in Furman's 4-1 win at No. 8 Gardner-Webb on Friday evening. For the week, the redshirt-freshman turned away 14 of 15 shots with the only goal allowed coming on a penalty kick by the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Johnson, a junior, helped setup
Ryan Reid's opening score in the third minute of Friday night's win at Gardner-Webb before netting the eventual match-winning goal in the fourth minute when he scored after stripping the ball from the feet of the goalkeeper in the box. The goal marked the second of the season for the Atlanta, Ga., native.
The Paladins, now ranked No. 3 in the latest Top Drawer Soccer Top 25, are back in action tonight when they host the College of Charleston Cougars for a 6 p.m. kickoff on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium. Admission to the match is free and it will be streamed live on ESPN+
