Greenville, S.C. – Furman men's basketball renews its Southern Conference rivalry with the Samford Bulldogs when the Paladins travel to Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday night.

Winners in 11 of their last 13 games, Furman comes into Wednesday night's road tilt at 12-5 overall and tied for second place in the SoCon standings at 3-1 in league play. After a 78-67 win at Chattanooga last Wednesday, the Paladins put together their best defensive effort of the season by holding VMI to 48 points on 26.9% shooting in a 69-48 triumph over the Keydets Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

Alex Wilkins, who ranks 10
th in the country in point per game (16.9 ppg) and sixth in assists per game 5.1 apg) among NCAA Division I freshmen, led the way against VMI with 17 points and four assists while
Eddrin Bronson came off the bench to drain 4-of-7 three-point attempts and match a career-best with 16 points. Senior
Charles Johnston added a season-high 15 rebounds to key Furman to a 48-32 edge on the glass and dished out a career-best five assists.

Furman holds a 3-1 record in true road games this season and is tied for fourth among all NCAA Division in teams in true road wins over the last 11 seasons with 77. Wednesday's game marks the 42
nd all-time matchup between Furman and Samford with the Paladins holding a 29-12 series advantage. The Paladins swept last year's regular season home-and-home series versus the Bulldogs before eliminating Samford from the SoCon Men's Basketball Championship with a 95-72 victory in the quarterfinal round in Asheville, N.C.

The Bulldogs, 5-1 at home this season and 18-4 at the Pete Hanna Center of the last two seasons, enter Wednesday's game at 9-8 overall and 2-2 in the SoCon following an 88-79 loss at Chattanooga on Saturday. Senior Jadin Booth leads Samford in scoring at 20.4 points per game and has connected on 41.2% of his three-point attempts.

Following Wednesday's road game, Furman returns home to host Wofford on Saturday, January 17, at Timmons Arena. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
