Furman vs. UNCG Game Notes
Â
Greensboro, N.C. – Less than 48 hours after suffering an overtime loss at The Citadel, Furman returns to action when it takes on the UNC Greensboro Spartans in Southern Conference men's basketball play Friday afternoon.
Â
Tip-off at Bodford Arena on the UNCG campus is set for 3 p.m. while live streaming plans have yet to be determined. Fans can also listen to
Dan Scott and Tom Van Hoy call the action on The Fan Upstate at 97.7 FM and 1330 AM in Greenville, 97.1 FM and 1490 AM in Spartanburg, and via the Audacy app. Links for the broadcast (if available), live audio, and live statistics are available at FurmanPaladins.com.
Â
Furman, 13-7 overall and 4-3 in league play, is looking to snap a two-game skid. After seeing a 59-46 lead evaporate in Saturday's 74-70 loss at home against Wofford, the Paladins squandered a 55-36 advantage in the final 10 minutes on Wednesday as The Citadel forced overtime before escaping with a 77-75 verdict at McAlister Field House. The game marked the third straight between the Paladins and Bulldogs to reach overtime in Charleston.
Â
Senior
Charles Johnston notched his eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds while freshman
Alex Wilkins added 15 points and matched a career-high with nine assists for the Paladins. Furman, however, was outscored 31-12 to end regulation and connected on just 6-of-29 three-point tries.
Â
Friday's game versus UNCG, originally scheduled for Saturday, marks the Paladins first visit to Bodford Arena since December of 2007. The Spartans hold a 27-21 lead in the all-time series between the schools and have won each of the last four meetings, including a 58-50 triumph over Furman at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in the most recent meeting last February.
Â
UNCG is 8-12 overall and 4-3 in the SoCon following an 85-78 victory at VMI on Wednesday night.
