The Paladins return a wealth of experience from a 2025-26 squad that posted a 22-13 record, claimed their second SoCon Tournament title in four years, and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the last four seasons. Forwards
Charles Johnston and
Marcus Kell were named preseason All-SoCon as the Paladins were picked first in preseason polling of the league's 11 head coaches earlier this month.
Furman opened preseason play on October 8 with a 111-93 defeat at nationally-ranked Alabama. Kell, a transfer from Western Carolina, led the way with 22 points while sophomore
Abijah Franklin added 21 points and Johnston posted 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Georgia Southern fashioned a 21-16 record a year ago and reached the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament before falling to Troy, 77-61. The Eagles hold a 27-24 lead in the all-time series versus Furman. The schools have not met since Georgia Southern exited the SoCon following the 2013-14 season.
