Furman vs. UNCG Game Notes

Greenville, S.C. – Furman looks to claim its fourth win in its last five outings and complete a season sweep of UNC Greensboro when the Paladins entertain the Spartans in Southern Conference men's basketball action Sunday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

Sunday's game, sponsored by The Melonakos Law Firm, is set for a 1 p.m. tip-off and will air live on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to Dan Scott and Tom Van Hoy call the action on The Fan Upstate at 97.7 FM and 1330 AM in Greenville, 97.1 FM and 1490 AM in Spartanburg, and via the Audacy app. Links for the live audio and live statistics are available at FurmanPaladins.com. Tickets for Sunday's game are available for purchase on the Furman TicketMaster Page.

The Paladins enter Sunday's game sporting a 16-8 overall record and 7-4 SoCon mark following a heartbreaking 75-71 overtime loss at first-place ETSU on Wednesday night. Furman, playing for a share of the league lead, built a 15-point advantage in the second half before the Buccaneers stormed from behind to force overtime and escape with the four-point win in Johnson City, Tenn. The loss marked Furman's third overtime defeat in league play and the third time it suffered a SoCon loss after holding a double-digit lead in the second half.

Alex Wilkins paced the Paladins with 19 points while Cooper Bowser totaled 18 points and eight rebounds in his second game back from injury. The Paladins were undone by 21 turnovers that led to 23 ETSU points and helped the Bucs compile an 18-2 scoring edge in points off turnovers.

Sunday's rematch between the Paladins and Spartans marks the 50th series meeting with UNCG holding a 27-22 edge. Furman snapped a four-game skid against UNCG with an 89-66 triumph in Greensboro, N.C., on January 23 behind 27 points from Wilkins and 25 from Tom House. The Spartans are searching for their fifth straight win over the Paladins in Greenville.
