Greenville, S.C. – The Furman softball team returns to action on Tuesday evening when it visits McWhorter Stadium to take on the 17^th-ranked Clemson Tigers.
 
First pitch in Clemson, S.C., is set for 6 p.m. and Tuesday's game will be streamed live on ACC Network Xtra.
 
The Paladins went 0-5 on the opening weekend of the season at Gardner-Webb's Runnin' Bulldog Classic in Boiling Springs, N.C. WAC preseason favorites Tarleton State and tournament host Gardner-Webb each took a pair of games from the Paladins while Youngstown State downed Furman on Saturday.
 
Leftfielder Eden Frederick and first baseman Sylvia Burroughs both batted .385 to lead the Paladin offense this past weekend. Frederick scored six of Furman's 21 runs and swiped two bases while Burroughs totaled three extra base hits, worked four walks, and batted in three runs. Junior transfer Meghan Shirey drove in four runs and collected a pair of doubles while splitting her time between catcher and third base.
 
Furman's shorthanded and youthful pitching staff struggled during the opening weekend allowing 52 runs and walking 28 batters. The defense compounded the pitching issues with 11 errors that led to 16 unearned runs.
 
Tuesday's contest marks the 10^th meeting between the Paladins and Tigers with Clemson holding an 8-1 series lead. Furman captured its first victory over Clemson with a 4-3 decision at McWhorter Stadium during the 2024 season, but the Tigers gained revenge with a 12-0 verdict in the most recent meeting on March 4, 2025, in Clemson.
 
This past weekend, Clemson opened its season by posting a 3-2 record at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla.
