AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Furman (-3) women's golf team is in second place after Saturday's two rounds of the Valspar Augusta Invitational, which is being held at the par 72, 6,059 yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
No. 34 Missouri (-12) blistered the field in each of Saturday's two rounds to take a nine-stroke lead over the Paladins, who lead 37th-ranked Kentucky (-1) by two shots entering Sunday's final round. No. 41 Indiana (+7) and Minnesota (+7) are tied for fourth place in the 17-team field.
Furman notched 19 birdies and an eagle in round two, matching the second-best round of the year at 284.
Freshman Olivia Hasselbach (-3) of Tampa, Fla., is ted for second to lead Furman. She fired an opening-round 69 with a team-high five birdies in round one. After birdieing her first hole, she reeled off three-straight birdies from No. 15 through No. 17 then made the turn and birdied No. 2 to move into a share of the lead. Hasselbach, who added an even 72 with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 14 and No. 15, in round two, sits just one stroke back of individual leader Melanie Walker (-4) of Missouri.Â
Junior Audrey Ryu (-2) and sophomore Jenna Madden (-2) are tied for fourth. Ryu posted a 73 with three birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18, in round one then fired a 69 with five birdies in round two. Madden tallied a 72 with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 7 and No. 8 to finish out the round, to open the tournament then carded a 2-under 70 with four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 No. 6.Â
Freshman Ava Hanneman (-3) enters the final round tied for 30th. She recorded a 75 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 11 in the first round then shot a 73 with birdies on No. 11 and No. 15 in round two. Sophomore Eva Ringwald (+7) is tied for 43rd. She opened with a 78 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 9 and rebounded with a 73 with five birdies in the afternoon. Ringwald birdied four out of five holes from No. 2 through No. 6. Â
Sophomore Andrea Marin Raga (+14), who is playing as an individual, carded an 81 with a birdie on No. 6 in round one and a 77 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 9 in round two, tying for 77th.Â
The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The Paladins will tee off on No. 1 through No. 4 and will play in a group with Missouri, Kentucky, and Indiana. Admission is free and fans are welcome. Live results will be available at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/239528/scoring/team.
