Furman Finishes As Runner-Up At Valspar Augusta Invitational

Freshman Hasselbach ties for third to lead Paladins

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The Furman (+2) women's golf team finished as runner-up Sunday at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, which was held at the par 72, 6,059 yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

No. 34 Missouri (-2), who came into the final day with a nine-stroke lead, won the tournament by just four shots over the Paladins.  Furman, the only non-Power 4 team in the top five finishers, led No. 37 Kentucky (+5) by only two shots entering the final round, but remained steady and beat out the Wildcats by three strokes.  No. 41 Indiana (+13) finished fourth, followed by Minnesota (+16) in fifth place.   

Freshman Olivia Hasselbach (-3) of Tampa, Fla., carded an even 72 to tie for third.  She notched birdies on No. 3 and No. 6 to turn at even par, then added an additional birdie on No. 11.  Hasselbach, who notched her second top-3 finish of the spring, concluded the tournament four strokes back of individual medalist Isabel Brozena (-7) of Xavier, who won the event with scores of 72-73-64=209.

Junior Audrey Ryu (-1) shot a 73 with a team-high four birdies in the final round, tying for sixth.  She birdied three out of four holes from No. 10 through No. 13 and added a final birdie on No. 18 on Sunday.  Sophomore Jenna Madden (+2) tied for 14th after recording a 76 with a birdie on No. 13 in round three. 

Sophomore Eva Ringwald (+7) tallied an even 72 with consecutive birdies on No. 11 and No. 12 in the final round to tie for 31st, and freshman Ava Hanneman (+8) tied for 35th after scoring a 76 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 9.  

Sophomore Andrea Marin Raga (+21), who played as an individual, posted a 79 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 9 to finish 79th. 

Furman and North Florida will entertain 14 teams at the Coach Mo Classic in St. Augustine, Fla., March 30-31.
