Furman Battles Gardner-Webb In Regular Season Finale

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team closes out the regular season Saturday afternoon when it heads to Boiling Springs, N.C., for a 1 p.m. opening draw against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs in Big South Conference action at Spangler Stadium.

The Paladins (8-8, 4-3 Big South) had three different players record a hat trick last Saturday and rallied back in the fourth quarter for a 16-13 victory over Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. Furman held a 35-31 advantage in shots, 18-11 in ground balls, and 9-8 in caused turnovers. The Paladins also recorded 16 draws and forced Winthrop in 15 turnovers.

Reynolds Hester and Lily Toole both registered four points to lead the Furman offense. Toole scored a team high four goals and Hester contributed three goals and an assist. Marin Hodor tied her career best of three goals. Lilly Dyer and Charlotte Kent both picked up three ground balls while Grace Gibson and Rachel Sbei both compiled two caused turnovers. Cate Noone (5) and Skylar Hilmer (4) combined for nine draws. Goalie Sailor Henderson came off the bench to earn her first win of the season after finishing with five saves and two ground balls.

Gardner-Webb heads into the weekend with a 2-14 overall record and 2-5 mark in the Big South following 13-6 defeat to High Point on Wednesday. The Runnin' Bulldogs are under the direction of second-year head coach Chris Harris.

The Paladins are facing Gardner-Webb for the 10th time in program history and have won all nine of the previous matchups. Furman won both contests last season against the Runnin' Bulldogs including a 19-5 victory in the first round of the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship at Paladin Stadium.

The 2026 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship starts with the first round on April 28 and is being hosted by the higher seeds. The semifinals and finals are slated for May 1 and May 3 at the site of the league's number one seed.
