Furman Hosts Radford Tuesday In Big South Tournament Opener

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team begins its quest for a conference championship on Tuesday evening when it hosts the fifth-seeded Radford Highlanders in the first round of the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship at 7 p.m. from Paladin Stadium.

The Paladins (9-8, 5-3 Big South) are the fourth seed for the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship and are coming off a 13-9 victory last Saturday in the regular season finale at Gardner-Webb. Furman concluded the contest holding a 33-24 advantage in shots, 19-11 in ground balls, 10-8 in caused turnovers, and 14-10 in draws. The Paladins also forced Gardner-Webb into 15 turnovers.

Allie Kandel and Lily Toole both led the Furman offense with a game high four points apiece. Kandel led all players with four goals while Toole contributed a hat trick and one assist. Kandel added four draws and two ground balls, and Toole posted one ground ball and one caused turnover. Reynolds Hester and Emily Muir both totaled three points on two goals and one assist. Cassie Larsen picked up a career best five ground balls and Zoe Milmoe caused a match high three turnovers. Skylar Hilmer won five draws. In goal, Sailor Henderson finished with a career high 11 saves to go with four ground balls and one caused turnover.

Radford enters the postseason with a 4-13 overall record and finished the regular season 3-5 in league play after falling to Wofford in the regular season finale this past Saturday, 15-13. The Highlanders are under the direction of fifth-year head coach Samantha Jones.

The Paladins are facing Radford for the sixth time in program history with Furman owning a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series. Furman picked up a 17-9 victory over the Highlanders in the first meeting this year back on March 28 in Greenville.

The winner of Tuesday's first round matchup will advance to the semifinals on Friday, May 1 and face top-seeded Mercer at 4 p.m. from Five Star Stadium in Macon, Ga.
