Furman Sweeps SoCon Postseason Awards

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman swept the Southern Conference women's golf postseason awards, as Audrey Ryu was chosen the league player of the year, Olivia Hasselbach SoCon Freshman of the Year, and Jeff Hull SoCon Coach of the Year, as announced today by the league office.

In addition, Eva Ringwald joined Ryu and Hasselbach on the all-conference team, and Ava Hanneman and Hasselbach were named to the all-freshman team.  The teams are selected by a combination of rankings and a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Ryu is the Paladins' 21st SoCon Player of the Year and the eighth since Hull joined the program.  The Paladins have won the honor in six of the last eight years it has been awarded.

A junior from Dublin, Ohio, Ryu, who was named to the all-conference team for the third-consecutive season, is the highest ranked player in the SoCon.  The 2024-25 SoCon Female Athlete of the Year, she leads the Paladins with a 72.57 stroke average over 30 rounds this season.  Ryu won her second-straight SoCon individual championship last week and has recorded four top-10 finishes this year.  A concert pianist, she is a biology major with a biomed focus and holds a 3.96 GPA.

Hasselbach, a rookie from Tampa, Fla., ranks third for the Paladins with a 74.23 stroke average over 30 rounds this season.  After firing an opening-round 69, she tied for third to lead Furman at the Valspar Augusta Invitational and paced the Paladins by tying for third at the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate.  At last week's league championship, Hasselbach tied for 14th.

Hull, who earned his fifth SoCon Coach of the Year award and the Paladins' 17th overall, led Furman to the 2026 SoCon title last week at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C.  The Paladins are the highest ranked team in the league and have earned the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA regionals, which will be held May 11-13.  The NCAA field will be announced live on the Golf Channel on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

A sophomore from Aidlingen, Germany, Ringwald was second on the Paladin squad with a 74.21 stroke average over 24 rounds.  The runner-up at last week's SoCon Championship, she tied for third at 3-under to lead Furman at the Coach Mo Classic in March.  Ringwald also recorded top-20 finishes at both the Cougar Classic and the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate.

Hanneman, a native of Orono, Minn., competed in all 30 rounds during her freshman campaign, posting a 75.83 stroke average.  She tied for 13th to lead Furman at the Evie Odom Invitational and tied for 21st at the SoCon Championship.

"I am so proud of this team and the individuals honored with SoCon awards," said Hull.  "Audrey continues to impress with her play, and I'm so glad she was named player of the year.  Eva has really stepped up everything and has developed into the player she wants to be.  It's nice that her hard work has paid off.  Olivia is our first freshman of the year recipient since 2021.  To win that and be named to All-SoCon team and all-freshman team are great accomplishments.  When you add Ava to the all-freshman team as well as everyone else returning, I feel like we are poised for a great run next year, as well."
