GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's golf team will take part in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, N.C., May 11-13, as announced Wednesday by the NCAA Division I Golf Committee.
The Paladins, who are the No. 10 seed in Chapel Hill, are part of an 12-team regional field that will battle for a top-five finish and a berth in the 30-team NCAA Championship, which will be held May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. The Chapel Hill Regional field includes four of the top 25 teams in the country led by fifth-ranked Texas. No. 12 North Carolina, 17th-ranked Mississippi State, and No. 20 Oklahoma State will compete in Chapel Hill.
Furman, which secured the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing its 22nd SoCon Championship last week at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood, S.C., will make its 26th NCAA Regional appearance. The Paladins appeared in 17-straight regionals from 1993, when the regional format began, until 2010. Â
The Furman team finished ninth at the NCAA Normal Regional last season. Audrey Ryu placed seventh to claim the individual qualifying spot for the NCAA Championship, where she advanced to the final round and tied for 47th.Â
The Paladin lineup for this year's regional will include Ryu, sophomores Jenna Madden and Eva Ringwald, and freshmen Ava Hanneman and Olivia Hasselbach. Andrea Marin Raga will travel as an alternate.Â
