Greenville, S.C. – Former Furman men's basketball standout Jordan Lyons is returning to the Paladin program as an assistant coach, it was announced on Monday by head coach
Bob Richey.

"Jordan represents everything we want Furman Basketball to stand for — toughness, competitiveness, leadership, and a relentless work ethic. He made a tremendous impact here as a player, on staff, and his three years at the Naval Academy have prepared him well to come back here and succeed. More importantly, Jordan understands the culture of this program and the standard of excellence that comes with being "ALL DIN". Our players will benefit tremendously from his energy, his basketball mind, and the genuine relationships he builds with people. We are excited to welcome Jordan and his wife, Dyman, back to Greenville!"
Lyons recently completed his third season as an assistant coach at Navy, where he helped the Mids to a 26-8 overall record, 17-1 Patriot League worksheet, and a berth in the NIT during the 2025-26 season. Under his guidance, Austin Benigni earned Patriot League Player of the Year honors and Aidan Kehoe was named the league's defensive player of the year. Both were selected to the All-Patriot League First Team and Benigni was tabbed as the Lou Henson National Mid-Major Player of the Year.
A native of Peachtree City, Ga., Lyons began his coaching career as a video and analytics coordinator at Furman during the 2022-23 season and helped lead the Paladins to a school-record 28 wins, Southern Conference regular season title, and the school's first SoCon Tournament crown since 1980. Furman made its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in over four decades and defeated No. 4 seed Virginia in the first round before losing to eventual tournament-finalist San Diego State. Individually, Mike Bothwell and Jalen Slawson were named finalists for the 2023 Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, Slawson was named the SoCon Player of the Year and was later a second round selection by Sacramento in the 2023 NBA Draft, and Bothwell signed a free agent contract with Cleveland.
Lyons graduated from Furman in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies. On the basketball court, he totaled 1,529 points in his career to rank 16th on the school's scoring list, He connected on 288 career triples and tied the NCAA record for the most treys made in a single game when he drained 15 against North Greenville on November 15, 2018. He scored 54 points against the Crusaders, an effort that ranks eighth in school history and is tied for 10th place in Southern Conference history.
The Paladin guard received all-conference accolades in both 2019 (third team) and 2020 (first team) after first being named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in 2017. He also earned placement on the conference's all-tournament team in 2018 and '19. Additionally, he was named to the Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America Team in 2020.
Lyons was part of Furman teams that shared the 2017 Southern Conference regular season title and never placed lower than third in the conference standings in his four seasons. The Paladins amassed an overall record of 96-37 and a SoCon regular season record of 55-17 during his career. He started on the 2018-19 team that opened the season with a 12-0 record, defeated defending NCAA national champion Villanova and Final Four team Loyola Chicago, appeared in the Associated Press top-25 national rankings for three weeks and played host to Wichita State in the first round of the NIT.
After graduating from Furman, Lyons began a professional career that included stops in the Latvian Estonian Basketball League (BK Ogre, 2020), The Basketball League (Shreveport Mavericks, 2021) and the Kosovo Superliga and Liga Unike (KB Prezreni-16, 2022).
A graduate of McIntosh High School, he recorded a Fayette County (Ga.)-record 2,351 points as a prep standout. Lyons earned all-region and all-county accolades in each of his four seasons to go along with a pair of all-state laurels. He was inducted into the McIntosh High School Hall of Fame in 2022.
