GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's football program will take a trip down memory lane on Saturday, Aug. 8, with a practice at Sirrine Stadium in downtown Greenville from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., head coach Clay Hendrix has announced.

With gates scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m., the two-hour practice will mark only the Paladins' second appearance in Sirrine Stadium since 1980, when Furman closed its 41-season history at its then-home facility with a 28-15 victory over arch-rival The Citadel that clinched the program's first outright Southern Conference championship.  The Paladins practiced once in Sirrine Stadium in 2017, in Hendrix's first season as head coach

"We're very excited about the opportunity to practice in Sirrine Stadium, where so much of Furman's football tradition was forged," said Hendrix.

Furman began play in Sirrine Stadium during the 1936 season — its first year as a member of the SoCon — and went on to entertain both Clemson and South Carolina there for a combined 20 games until the late 1950s.

In 1978 Furman's goal line stand on the final play of the game secured a 17-16 victory over The Citadel and a share of the Paladins' first of now 15 SoCon titles — the most by any school.

Many of Furman's football greats donned the purple and white in Sirrine Stadium, including Rhoten Shetley, Tom Wham, Sam Wyche, David Whitehurst, Stanford Jennings, and Ernest Gibson.

Furman opened Paladin Stadium, its marquee on-campus facility and current home, in 1981.

Sirrine Stadium, which has served as the home field for Greenville High School for many years, boasts a new synthetic playing surface that replaced the natural grass field that served it from its inception.

The Paladins report for preseason camp on Tuesday, July 28, and begin practice on Wednesday, July 29.

Furman kicks off its 2026 season on Thursday, August 27, when it entertains Anderson in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Paladin Stadium.
