Greenville, S.C. – Furman's Ryan Wagner has been named Southern Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
 
Wagner, a native of Leawood, Kan., scored the match-winning goal in the 76^th minute to lift Furman to a 4-3 victory over 19^th-ranked Duke on Thursday night in Durham, N.C., before anchoring a Paladin defense that posted a shutout in a 0-0 draw at UNCW on Sunday afternoon. The centerback got on the end of Wilfer Bustamante's low cross through the box at the 75:04 mark in Thursday's 4-3 win, which marked the first victory for first-year Paladin head coach Brandon Tucker.
 
A starter at centerback in 43 matches in his career, Wagner has tallied two goals and four assists in three seasons for the Paladins and earned second team All-SoCon honors a year ago.
 
Furman concludes its three-match road trip at Davidson on Friday at 6 p.m. before returning to Stone Soccer Stadium to host Garner-Webb on Wednesday, September 9 at 6 p.m.
