Box Score Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman women's
soccer team returns home on Friday to host upstate rival Clemson at
Stone Soccer Stadium. Kickoff for the non-conference contest
is set for 7 p.m.
The Paladins are 2-1 on the season after posting a 3-0 victory
at the University of Alabama on Saturday night. The win
marked Furman's first over a Southeastern Conference foe
since a 1-0 victory at South Carolina during the 2003 season.
Furman is just 2-11-1 all-time versus Clemson (3-0), but the
Paladins have downed the Tigers in each of the last two seasons,
including a 2-1 victory at Historic Riggs Field last
September. In the last meeting between the schools in
Greenville, Furman's Alexa Jones scored in the 64th minute to
rally Furman to a 2-1 triumph, its first victory ever against
Clemson.
The 2010 Paladins are led by junior Rachel Shelnutt who has
tallied two goals and three assists over three matches. The
St. Simons Island, Ga., product is tied for the Southern Conference
lead in total points (7) and assists (3). Junior Martha Hall,
who notched her first goal of the campaign on Saturday against the
Crimson Tide currently leads all active SoCon players in career
goals (20), total points (46) and match-winning goals (10).
