Paladin Women's Soccer To Entertain Clemson On Friday

Box Score

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman women's soccer team returns home on Friday to host upstate rival Clemson at Stone Soccer Stadium.  Kickoff for the non-conference contest is set for 7 p.m.

The Paladins are 2-1 on the season after posting a 3-0 victory at the University of Alabama on Saturday night.  The win marked Furman's first over a Southeastern Conference foe since a 1-0 victory at South Carolina during the 2003 season.

Furman is just 2-11-1 all-time versus Clemson (3-0), but the Paladins have downed the Tigers in each of the last two seasons, including a 2-1 victory at Historic Riggs Field last September.  In the last meeting between the schools in Greenville, Furman's Alexa Jones scored in the 64th minute to rally Furman to a 2-1 triumph, its first victory ever against Clemson.

The 2010 Paladins are led by junior Rachel Shelnutt who has tallied two goals and three assists over three matches.  The St. Simons Island, Ga., product is tied for the Southern Conference lead in total points (7) and assists (3).  Junior Martha Hall, who notched her first goal of the campaign on Saturday against the Crimson Tide currently leads all active SoCon players in career goals (20), total points (46) and match-winning goals (10).
