CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Furman cross country teams picked up two victories at the Royals Challenge Friday at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.
Furman's women totalled 126 points to defeat Division I competitors Davidson, Wofford, Radford, South Carolina, Charlotte, and Appalachian State.
Junior Emma Kuntz of Louisville, Ky., led the Paladins on the 5K course, placing ninth with a time of 17:38.5, while senior Jennifer Stephenson turned in a time of 18:05.8 to take 20th place. Three freshmen completed the Furman women's lineup, with Abigail Robertson placing 24th with a time of 18:09.3, Quinn McConnell taking 26th place at 18:13.2, and Nicole Matysik rounding out the Paladin runners in 52nd place with a time of 18:38.6.
The Paladin men scored 243 points, beating out Radford, UNC Wilmington, Elon, Wofford, and Presbyterian in the Division I race.
Freshman Ares Reading, a native of Niwot, Colo., paced the Furman men, turning in a time of 24:25.0 to finish 12th on the 8K course. Sophomore Noah Dolhare finished 32nd with a time of 24:55.4, and rookie James LaLonde posted a time of 25:19.5 for 55th place. Senior Madison Daniel crossed the line in 25:46.5 to place 89th, and freshman Benjamin Seeber rounded out the Paladin scorers in 108th place with a time of 25:59.2. Rookie Adam Beucler finished 130th at 26:12.6, and freshman Justin Hager was 213th with a time of 26:56.7.
Furman will compete at the Nuttycombe Classic in Madison, Wis., on October 18.
