CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Sophomore Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (-2) shot even par on Sunday to tie for 13th, a career best, and pace the 30th-ranked Furman women's golf team (+6) at the 44th Annual Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the par 72 6,379 yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Rhéaume, who hails from Lac-Delage, Canada, teed off on No. 6 in the shotgun start and birdied her first hole to turn at one-under. She added birdies on No. 15 and No. 17 on the back then added a final birdie on No. 3 to finish the day even at 72.
Junior Carly Burkhardt (E) tied for 25th after posting a 73 with birdied on No. 3 and No. 6 on Sunday, and freshman Caroline Wrigley (+5), who was one of three Paladins with four birdies in the final round, added a 77 in the final round to tie for 46th. Freshman Anna Morgan (+5) tied for 52nd after scoring three birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17, and tallying a final-round 77. Junior Caitlin Cotterill (+10) carded a 75 with four birdies to tie for 73rd.
Michigan State's Valery Plata (-11) won individual medalist honors with a three-day total of 69-68-68=205.
No. 19 Michigan State (-12) won the tournament by one stroke over 16th-ranked Alabama (-11). Ohio State (-9) and No. 12 Duke (-12) tied for third, while second-ranked Wake Forest (-7) finished fifth. The Paladins posted a ninth-place finish, beating out Virginia (+8) , No. 9 Arkansas (+9), and Clemson (+13).
Furman will conclude the 2019 fall season at the Landfall Tradition Oct. 25-27 in Wilmington, N.C.
