LYNCHBURG, VA. -- Junior Henrik Atlevi won the blue singles draw to lead the Furman men's tennis team this weekend at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
Atlevi defeated Liberty's Steve Mundt, 6-4, 6-4, in the finals for the draw victory. He put together three-straight wins in earlier rounds, beating Virginia Tech's Ryan Bernstine, 6-0, 6-2, in round one and Mritunjay Badola of Kennesaw State, 6-2, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Atlevi posted a 6-3, 6-0 semifinal victory over East Carolina's Frederico Masetti.
In the red singles draw, sophomore James Roelofse defeated Kennesaw State's Brian Triana, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and junior Drew Singerman recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stefan Petrovic from James Madison.
The Paladins picked up two doubles victories. Singerman and Atlevi teamed up to beat Alvaro Arce and Holden Koons of James Madison, 7-5, in the opening round of the red draw, and Roelofse and Nash defeated Virginia Tech's Bernstine and Nelson Stafford of East Carolina, 6-4, in the consolation round of the blue draw.
Furman will compete at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C., September 20-22.
