Greenville, S.C. – Furman men's basketball returns to Timmons Arena on Wednesday night when it hosts first place Western Carolina in a battle for the top spot in the Southern Conference standings. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Paladins enter Wednesday's matchup at 14-4 overall and 4-1 in the SoCon after having their seven-game winning streak snapped in an 86-73 loss to UNCG in front of a crowd of 4,646 Saturday night at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Senior
Jordan Lyons leads the Paladins averaging 16.8 points per game, including almost 21 points per game in league play. Sophomore
Noah Gurley, who poured in a game-high 27 points in Saturday's loss, has contributed 14.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while junior
Clay Mounce has added 13.6 points and 6.5 boards per contest.
Wednesday night's meeting marks the 76
th renewal of the Furman-Western Carolina rivalry with the Paladins holding a 46-29 series lead. Furman has won seven straight meetings with the Catamounts and nine of the last 10 encounters. Last season, the Paladins prevailed in a wild 90-88 double overtime battle at Timmons Arena in the SoCon opener before claiming a 64-45 victory in Cullowhee, N.C., on February 7, 2019.
The Catamounts, 12-3 overall, lead the SoCon with a 4-0 record and their only losses this season have come at the hands of Power 5 programs in Georgia, Florida State and Xavier. Western Carolina, led by junior Mason Faulkner's 18.5 points, 6.5 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game, downed Mercer, 69-61, on Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten in league play.
Following the Western Carolina game, Furman will enter the national spotlight on Friday when it travels to Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C., to face Wofford in a SoCon matchup that will be televised live on ESPNU at 7 p.m.
