GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Senior Gabbi Jennings set a new school record in the mile for the second-consecutive weekend to pace the Furman indoor track and field team Saturday at the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
A native of Slidell, La., Jennings turned in a time of 4:37.36, placing fifth in a field stacked with professionals and taking two seconds off her previous record of 4:39.97, which she set last weekend at the Carolina Challenge. The time ranks among the top five in the nation for collegiate runners this season.
Senior Ryan Adams was the top collegiate finisher in the men's mile, crossing the line in 4:00.65 for fifth place, while senior Aaron Wier was eighth overall and fourth among collegiate competitors with a season-best time of 4:02.43.
In the women's 3,000m, senior Savannah Carnahan finished eighth with a season-best time of 9:23.24, and senior Emma Grace Hurley placed 11th at 9:43.67. Carnahan's time ranks among the 25 times for the NCAA this indoor season.
At the Millrose Games in New York City, sophomore Cameron Ponder was the top collegiate finisher in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:06.09. Â
Furman will compete at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., and the Bulldog Classic in Birmingham, Ala., next weekend.
