Furman Travels to North Carolina on Tuesday

Tipoff Set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team returns to the road on Tuesday evening when it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a 7 p.m. tipoff against the North Carolina Tar Heels inside the Dean E. Smith Center.

The Paladins (7-3) returned to the win column last Friday following a 73-65 victory over Appalachian State at Timmons Arena.

Jalen Slawson scored 16 points, including six in a late 8-0 run, and finished the game shooting 8-of-13 from the field to go with three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Mike Bothwell also contributed 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers, while adding four rebounds and two assists. Alex Hunter poured in 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. Marcus Foster compiled nine rebounds and eight points, and Conley Garrison eight points and seven rebounds. Joe Anderson came off the bench and dished out a career high five assists.

Bothwell became the 49th member of Furman's 1,000-point club, joining Hunter who also entered the club on November 12 at Louisville.

The Paladins concluded the game shooting 49.1 percent from the field and held the advantage in points in the paint (40-30), fast break points (10-4) and bench points (14-12).

Hunter leads Furman offensively this season averaging 17.6 points per game while Bothwell contributes 16.4. Slawson pours in 16.8 points and a team leading 8.6 rebounds per game.

North Carolina is currently 7-2 on the season, and 1-0 in the ACC, after defeating Elon, 80-63, on Saturday in Chapel Hill. Caleb Love is one of five players averaging in double figures for the Tar Heels with a team best 16.9 points per game. He is joined by Armando Bacot (14.3), RJ Davis (13.9), Brady Manek (13.0) and Dawson Garcia (11.3). Defensively, Bacot leads the team with 9.6 rebounds per game. North Carolina is under the direction of first-year head coach Hubert Davis.

The Paladins and Tar Heels are meeting for the 26th time in program history with North Carolina leading the all-time series 23-2. The teams have not met since the 1986-87 season when the Tar Heels defeated Furman, 95-65, in Charlotte, N.C.

The Paladins continue their road trip on Friday, December 17 traveling to Starkville, Miss. for a 7 p.m. ET tipoff against Mississippi State.
