Furman Set To Host ETSU In Wednesday SoCon Tilt

Tip Off Scheduled for 7 p.m.

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team is back at Timmons Arena on Wednesday evening to host the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in Southern Conference action with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

With the increase of COVID-19 transmission and infections, everyone attending an indoor athletic event at Furman University is required to wear a mask. Masks are required upon entry and must be worn within the facility except when eating or drinking.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. The game is being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+ and the ESPN app. Updates will be posted on the Furman men's basketball Twitter page (@FurmanHoops).

The Paladins (11-6, 3-1 SoCon) returned to downtown Greenville on January 8 and secured an 81-66 victory over Mercer at Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Furman improved its winning streak over the Bears to 13 consecutive games dating back to the 2015-16 season. With the win, head coach Bob Richey captured his 100th career victory.

Mike Bothwell scored a game high 17 points to lead the Paladins offensively and was one of four players to finish in double figures after shooting 6-of-14 from the field and dishing out five assists. Joe Anderson registered a career high 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting behind the 3-point line. Marcus Foster turned in 12 points, highlighted by an 8-for-8 mark at the free throw line, and eight rebounds. Jalen Slawson was also 8-for-8 at the charity stripe and contributed 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Alex Hunter added nine points, five assists and two steals. Conley Garrison and Garrett Hien both had seven points.

The trio of Slawson, Foster and Bothwell combined to make 20-of-20 free throws during the contest as Furman finished 23-of-26 for the contest. Slawson's game high three blocks were part of season best seven for the Paladins.

Furman concluded the game shooting 42.9 percent from the field and held a 10-8 advantage in fast break points.

Hunter leads the Paladins on offense this season averaging a team high 16.0 points per game while Bothwell contributes 15.5. Slawson also adds 15.5 points and a team leading 7.8 rebounds per game.

East Tennessee State currently sits at 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the SoCon following an 87-69 win over Western Carolina on Monday. David Sloan leads the Buccaneers offensively with 12.8 points per game while Ledarrius Brewer adds 12.3 and Jordan King 12.2. Defensively, Ty Brewer boasts a team leading 6.5 rebounds per game. ETSU is under the direction of first-year head coach Desmond Oliver.

Furman and East Tennessee State are meeting for the 64th time in program history Wednesday with the Buccaneers leading the all-time series 33-30.

The Paladins travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. on Saturday afternoon to face league-leading Chattanooga at 3 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
