First Place on the Line as Furman Men’s Basketball Visits Chattanooga on Saturday

Game to be Televised Nationally on CBS Sports Network

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team puts its three-game winning streak on the line and looks to increase its lead in the Southern Conference standings on Saturday afternoon when the Paladins travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. for a 3 p.m. tip off at McKenzie Arena.

The Paladins (12-6, 4-1 SoCon) won its third straight contest on Wednesday evening with a 78-69 victory over East Tennessee State at Timmons Arena.

After not scoring a point or attempting a field in the first half, Conley Garrison scored a game high 23 points over the final 20 minutes on 8-of-10 shooting, including 4-for-6 behind the 3-point line, with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Mike Bothwell contributed 15 points and six assists while Marcus Foster added 14 points. Jalen Slawson tallied 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Furman concluded the game shooting 45.2 percent from the field and held a 35-33 advantage in rebounds. The Paladins forced East Tennessee State into 14 turnovers that led to 20 points. Furman also led 12-8 in second chance points.

Alex Hunter leads the Paladins on offense this season averaging a team high 15.6 points per game while Bothwell contributes 15.4. Slawson also adds 15.2 points and a team leading 7.7 rebounds per game.

Chattanooga is currently second in the conference standings with a 13-4 overall record while going 3-1 against league opponents. The Mocs are coming off a 70-59 loss at Western Carolina on Wednesday. Malachi Smith leads the team in scoring with 21.5 points per game while David Jean-Baptiste adds 14.6 and Silvio De Sousa 12.3. Chattanooga is under the direction of fifth-year head coach Lamont Paris.

Furman is facing the Mocs for the 92nd time in program history with Chattanooga leading the all-time series 54-37.

The Paladins return to Timmons Arena on Wednesday, January 19 to host Western Carolina at 7 p.m.
