Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team aims for its third consecutive victory and fifth in a row at home over league opponents on Wednesday evening when it hosts the VMI Keydets at 7 p.m. from Timmons Arena.
With the increase of COVID-19 transmission and infections, everyone attending an indoor athletic event at Furman University is required to wear a mask. Masks are required upon entry and must be worn within the facility except when eating or drinking.
Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week is a nationwide event that unites basketball coaches across the country for a common cause – saving lives from cancer. Coaches and their staff across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness, helping to save lives by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening, and early detection.

The Paladins (14-7, 6-2 SoCon), for the first time since the 2010-11 season, defeated Wofford in Spartanburg last Saturday following a 75-50 win at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The 25-point win was Furman's largest margin of victory over the Terriers since the 2005-06 season when it won by a score of 83-52 in Spartanburg.
Jalen Slawson led four players in double figures with a game high 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and 4-of-6 behind the 3-point line, and added five rebounds, three blocks and one assist.
Mike Bothwell contributed 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block.
Marcus Foster and
Alex Hunter both finished with 10 points apiece. Foster grabbed five rebounds while Hunter and
Conley Garrison each dished out four assists.
Garrett Hien and
JP Pegues both provided eight points.
The Paladins concluded the game shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from 3-point range
Bothwell leads Furman offensively this season averaging 15.9 points per game while Hunter contributes 14.9 and Garrison 9.1. Slawson provides 15.1 points and a team leading 7.5 rebounds per game.
VMI is currently 11-9 overall and 4-4 in the SoCon following a 78-74 loss at home to Chattanooga last Saturday. Jake Stephens paces the Keydets with 18.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Kamdyn Curfman adds 17.5 points, Trey Bonham 9.9 and Sean Conway 9.3. VMI is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Dan Earl.
The Paladins and Keydets are meeting for the 104
th time in program history with Furman leading the all-time series 66-37.
The Paladins travel to Macon, Ga. on Saturday evening for a 6 p.m. tip off against the Mercer Bears on CBS Sports Network.
