NORFOLK, VA. -- No. 60 Furman suffered just its second defeat of the season Saturday, falling to No. 45 Old Dominion, 4-0, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.

The Monarchs picked up wins at flights one and three doubles to claim the opening point.  Luca Maldoner and Yevhen Sirous defeated senior Ivan Mitric and freshman Jamie Connel, 6-4, at number one, and Codie Van Schalkwyk and Francois Le Tallec teamed up for a 6-2 victory over freshmen Cole Burnam and Elijah Poritzky at number three.  The flight two match was unfinished with sophomore Emil Westling and senior James Roelofse tied, 4-all, with Younes Lalami and Oliver Nolan. 

In singles action, Old Dominion scored in the top three singles matches for the victory.  Maldoner topped Mitric, 6-3, 6-4, in the top-seeded contest, and Lalami held off Connel, 6-3, 6-3, at flight two.  At flight three, Sirous beat Poritzky, 6-4, 6-3. 

Matches at flights four through six were unfinished.  At flight four, Furman's Roelofse won the first set, 7-5, over Van Schalkwyk, but Van Schalkwyk led the second set, 5-1, when play was stopped.  Nolan won the first set, 6-4, at flight five versus Westling, but Westling was mounting a come back at 4-2 in set two.  Senior Drew Singerman entered the lineup for the Paladins at flight six and won the first set, 6-0, over Oliver Tobisch, yet Tobisch led, 5-4, in set two. 

The Paladins (7-2) will square off at Richmond Sunday at 1 p.m.
