Furman to Battle ETSU Monday on ESPNU

Tip-off Scheduled for 7 p.m.

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team plays its third game in six days Monday evening when it travels to Johnson City, Tenn. for a 7 p.m. Southern Conference contest against the East Tennessee State Buccaneers from Freedom Hall.

The Paladins (17-8, 9-3 SoCon) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a 58-56 loss to UNC Greensboro at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville. Furman concluded the game shooting 30.2 percent from the field while making 12-of-13 at the free throw line. The Paladins held a 15-11 advantage in second chance points after registering 16 offensive rebounds.

Alex Hunter became Furman's all-time leading 3-point shooter in the contest, connecting on two triples to give him 289 for his career. He surpassed Jordan Lyons who compiled 288 from 2017-20.

Mike Bothwell scored a game high 18 points to lead the Paladins and added five rebounds, three steals and one block. Marcus Foster provided 10 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Slawson had nine points, 12 rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Bothwell leads Furman on offense with 15.4 points per game while Hunter and Conley Garrison contribute 14.0 and 9.4 points, respectively. Slawson adds 15.0 points and a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game.

East Tennessee State is currently 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the SoCon following 62-60 loss at Wofford on Saturday. Jordan King leads the Buccaneers offensively averaging 14.5 points per game while Ledarrius Brewer adds 14.1, David Sloan 12.7 and Ty Brewer 10.4. Defensively, Ty Brewer contributes a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game. ETSU is under the direction of first-year head coach Desmond Oliver.

The Paladins and Buccaneers are meeting for the 65th time in program history with East Tennessee State holding a 33-31 lead in the all-time series.

Furman is off until Saturday, February 12 when it hosts league-leading Chattanooga at Timmons Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
