SUNSET, S.C. -- Senior Anna Morgan (+4) recorded an even 72 in the final round to tie for 33rd to lead the Furman women's golf team Sunday at the Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 6,386 yard The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
Morgan, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., teed off on No. 14 in the shotgun start and birdied No. 15 to turn at 1-under. She birdied No. 4 then eagled the par-5 No. 11 to finish at even par. Morgan finished nine strokes behind individual medalists Ingrid Lindblad (-5) of LSU, who ranks fourth nationally, 22nd-ranked Crystal Wang of Illinois (-5), and Virginia Tech's Morgan Ketchum (-5), who all posted three-round totals of 211.Â
Freshman Chloe Johnson (+11) also carded an even 72 in Sunday's final round. She birdied No. 1 and No. 13 to finish in a tie for 54th. Junior Caroline Crumrine (+18) tied for 66th after tallying a 75 with a birdie on No. 4, and freshman Faith Johnson (+20) notched a team-high four birdies and finished with a 74 in the final round to tie for 70th. Freshman Liza Lapeyre (+27) finished 78th after posting a 76 with three birdies on Sunday.Â
No. 17 Ole Miss (-8) rallied to win the tournament by one stroke after leading the field at 5-under on Sunday. No. 3 LSU (-7) finished second, followed by No. 28 Clemson (-6) in third place. The Paladins (+5) placed 13th in the loaded field, which included nine teams ranked among the top 50, including four top-25 teams, and finished ahead of multiple teams, including Power 5 foe Oklahoma (+61).Â
Furman will defend its Southern Conference title at the SoCon Championships, which will be held April 16-18 in Hilton Head, S.C.
