Furman To Battle Wofford For Pinson Cup Wednesday

Marissa Pennings

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman will travel to Spartanburg Wednesday to take on Wofford at 3:30 p.m. at the Reeves Tennis Center.

The winner of Wednesday's match will be awarded the yearly Pinson Cup by Bobby and Dixie Pinson, beloved friends of both the Furman and Wofford programs.  The couple has given a beautiful trophy, which stays with the winning school until the winner of the next season's match is determined, and a generous donation in honor of this rivalry.  The Paladins have been awarded the trophy each year since its inception in 2005.

Furman enters the match at 5-10 overall and 2-0 in Southern Conference play.  The Paladins have been idle for three weeks since defeating Cal State Fullerton, 6-1, and dropping a 4-3 match at San Diego State during the team's spring break trip to California March 6-8.

Wofford is 10-7 overall and 1-2 in the league.  On Friday, ETSU defeated the Terriers, 6-1, and Sunday Chattanooga slipped past Wofford, 4-3.

Furman holds a 31-0 series advantage after defeating the Terriers, 7-0, in Greenville last season.
