– Furman's
Sam Lape has been selected as the Southern Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 12-18. The selection is made by the league office.
Lape tied for 11th at the Mason Rudolph Championship, which wrapped last Wednesday. The native of Atlanta, Ga., shot a 3-under-par 68 during the final round after posting rounds of 72 and 70 in the first and second rounds, respectively. The senior went on a tear on the back nine and birdied four of his last five holes to finish the day with a team-high six birdies in the final round. Lape's performance in the final round helped him climb 10 spots on the leaderboard, and he finished the tournament at 3-under-par 210, defeating nine golfers ranked in the top 100 in the event.
Furman finished sixth in the 15-team, 84-golfer Mason Rudolph Championship. The Paladins shot 281 in the first round, 286 in the second round, and 284 in the final round for a tournament score of 1-under 851. Furman outperformed two top-40 teams, 36th-ranked Cincinnati and 39th-ranked Liberty, in the event as seven teams in the tournament were ranked in the top 50.
The Paladins will be back in action on April 23-25 at the SoCon Championship in Greensboro, Ga.
