Mike Bothwell helped the Cleveland Cavaliers punch their ticket to Monday's NBA 2K24 Summer League Championship Game while forward
Jalen Slawson produced his best outing as a member of the Sacramento Kings this weekend.
Bothwell, a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, totaled five points on 2-for-4 shooting in 10 minutes of action as the Cavs downed the Brooklyn Nets, 102-99, in overtime on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas. The victory for the Cavs (5-0) setup a Monday showdown with the Houston Rockets in the summer league championship game. Tip-off is slated for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The Kings capped their summer league run with a 92-84 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday. Slawson, who was drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft by Sacramento last month, paced his new team with 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block. The Summerville, S.C., product went 4-for-6 from the field and converted on 8-of-9 trips to the foul line in the finale.
Slawson earned SoCon Male Athlete of the Year and Frank Selvy Furman Male Athlete of the Year accolades after averaging 15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocked shots per game as a senior this past season. Bothwell averaged a Southern Conference-leading 17.7 points per game during the 2022-23 campaign to join Slawson in garnering Lou Henson Mid-Major All-American honors and first team All-SoCon laurels. The duo, who guided Furman to its first SoCon Tournament title and NCAA appearance since 1980, finished their careers as the Paladins' all-time wins leaders with 116 career victories.
