GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman (-21) men's golf team finished as runner-up Sunday at the 54th Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the par 71, 7,131-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

No. 27 Texas A&M (-23) set a new tournament record with a three-round total of 831, breaking the former standard of 832, which was set by Furman at last year's tournament, and claiming a two-stroke victory over the Paladins.  No. 34 Wake Forest (-19) finished third in the 15-team field.

Scotty Kennon (-11) of Wake Forest won the individual championship with a 54-hole score of 68-68-66=202, taking the win by three strokes and also establishing a new tournament record.  He broke the former record of 203, which was set by Jack Kay in 1986.

The Paladins placed three players among the top eight, including juniors Harris Barth (-6) and Clark Akers (-6), who tied for fifth, and senior Trey Diehl (-5), who placed eighth.  Barth birdied No. 8 and No. 9 to turn at 4-under after posting four birdies on the front.  He added three additional birdies on the back for a team-high seven birdies to lead the field with a final-round 65.

Akers was one of three Paladins to card a 1-under 70 in the final round.  He recorded two birdies on the front and two on the back, while Diehl scored a 70 with a birdie on No. 2 and three birdies on the back.  Senior Will Morlan (+4) scored three-straight birdies from No. 10 through No. 12 and added a final birdie on No. 18 to finish with a 70 and tie for 37th.  Freshman Ludvig Josefsson (+4) shot a 72 with birdies on No. 11 and No. 15 to also tie for 37th.

Other Paladins competing as individuals included senior Zach Frazer (E), who tied for 19th after scoring a 70 with four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 on Sunday.  Fifth-year student Josh Hebrink (+8) scored a 77 with four birdies in round three to tie for 52nd, and redshirt freshman Walter Anderson (+11) carded a 76 to tie for 67th.  Freshman Max Halflants (+14) posted a 73 with three birdies, tying for 74th, while sophomore Fisher Kennedy (+20) finished 85th after recording a 76 with birdies on No. 11 and No. 15.
