Furman Entertains UNCG In Nationally Televised SoCon Battle Sunday Afternoon

Tip-Off Is Slated For 2 P.M. On ESPNU

Greenville, S.C. – Furman, winners in six of its last seven games, returns home on Sunday afternoon to host Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro in a nationally televised battle on ESPNU.

Sunday's game, presented by Pepsi, is set for a 2 p.m. tip-off at Timmons Arena. In addition to the ESPNU broadcast, fans can listen to the action on The Fan Upstate at 97.7 FM and 1330 AM in Greenville, on 97.1 FM and 1490 AM in Spartanburg, or via the Audacy app. Links for the video stream, audio feed, and live statistics are available at FurmanPaladins.com.

Furman will celebrate "Hall of Fame Weekend" versus UNC Greensboro and a limited number of tickets are still available for purchase at FurmanPaladins.com. Former softball pitcher Lindsey Bert, former Paladin football standout Dakota Dozier, and former soccer great Walker Zimmerman, who were inducted into the Furman Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday evening, will be recognized during the game.

The Paladins improved to 12-10 overall and 6-3 in league play with a thrilling 82-79 come-from-behind victory in overtime on Wednesday night at The Citadel. Furman trailed by 18 points in the first half before rallying to grab a late lead. Facing a 72-69 deficit with under 10 seconds remaining in regulation, Furman rebounded a missed Bulldog free throw and junior JP Pegues drained a three-pointer with 0.8 seconds left to force overtime. The Paladins limited The Citadel to just 1-for-8 shooting in the extra period to grab their third road victory of the season. Marcus Foster led the way with 17 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, and career-best seven assists. Pegues added 16 points and fellow guard PJay Smith finished with 15.

Foster, who has posted four double-doubles in his five games since returning from injury, leads the Paladins averaging 19.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Pegues has contributed 16.6 points per game while forward Alex Williams has delivered 15.9 per game and shot 40.5% from three-point range.

Entering Sunday's contest, Furman has won four straight games at Timmons Arena and its last nine SoCon games in the facility dating back to an overtime loss versus UNC Greensboro last January. The Paladins are 60-8 versus SoCon opposition on their home floor since the beginning of the 2015-16 season and have won 29 of their last 32 SoCon games at Timmons.

Sunday's game marks the 46th all-time meeting between the Paladins and Spartans with UNCG holding a 24-21 series lead. The Spartans, behind 17 points apiece from Keyshaun Langley and Donovan Atwell, downed the Paladins, 79-68, in the SoCon opener for both schools on January 3 at the Greensboro Coliseum. Furman played the first meeting without its top three scorers due to injury. Carter Whitt paced the Paladins in the loss with 23 points and six assists.
