GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Bryn Woodall crushed the previous 3,000m meet record Sunday at the JDL Early Bird Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., and additional Paladins competed Saturday at the prestigious Boston University Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Mass.
A graduate student from Llanfairfechan, Wales, Woodall, who was paced by junior Brayden Seymour, won the men's 3,000m with a personal-best time of 7:59.52, taking almost 15 seconds off the previous meet record of 8:14.47, which Woodall set in 2022 when he competed as an undergraduate for Milligan.
Senior Colton Kempney finished second with a time of 8:13.02, while sophomore Matteo Tonnos placed third at 8:13.95. Graduate student Evan Guzman rounded out the Paladin runners in fourth place with time of 8:20.37.
In Boston, senior Carly Wilkes posted a time of 16:08.55 for 57th in the women's 5,000m, while senior Sierra Bower placed 87th at 16:22.47. On the men's side, junior Chris Knight, who recently competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championship, finished 73rd in the 5,000m with a personal-best time of 13:57.60, while graduate student Albert Velikonja was 82nd at 13:59.55.
After the winter break, Furman will compete at the Vanderbilt Invite in Nashville, Tenn., January 16-17.
