Paladins Take Two On Saturday At Furman Softball Classic; Buzhardt Tosses First Career No-Hitter

Furman Hosts Northern Iowa Sunday At 2 P.M.

Greenville, S.C. – Furman's offense scored 18 runs over 11 innings and the Paladins tossed back-to-back shutouts, including a no-hitter by Emme Buzhardt, to claim a pair of victories on Saturday at the Furman Softball Classic at Pepsi Stadium.

Furman 10, Holy Cross 0 (5 inn.)

In Furman's first game of the day, senior Lauralee Scott hurled a one-hit shutout to lead the Paladins to a 10-0 victory over Holy Cross in five innings.

Scott, a native of Greenwood, S.C., fanned five batters over five innings without issuing a walk to improve to 2-1 in the circle.

The Paladins exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third. A walk, error, and bunt single started the rally before Madison Petty drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Kiley Perry laced an RBI double into the gap. After another base on balls, Rachel Hawkins hammered her first career home run, a grand slam to left-center field. Furman added three more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Kate Stoltzfus' two-run double.

Perry went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and a walk to lead Furman's seven-hit attack while Hawkins drove in four runs.

Sophia Rincone (1-1) suffered the loss for Holy Cross after allowing 10 runs, just three earned, on seven hits in 3.2 innings.

Furman 8, Morehead State 0 (6 inn.)

In game two, Buzhardt faced just one batter above the minimum while tossing her first career no-hitter. The senior from Saluda, S.C. struck out three Morehead State batters and did not allow a walk en route to improving to 2-1 in the circle.

Caitlin Goldwait's RBI single and Peeler's steal of home put the Paladins in front 2-0 in the second inning. Peeler cracked a two-run homer and Petty added a two-run single as Furman plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to blow the game open. Single runs in the fifth and sixth innings triggered the mercy rule.

Emma Solis (1-4) took the loss for Morehead State after giving up two runs on four hits over three innings.

Peeler went 3-for-3 at the plate with homer and three RBIs in the nightcap while Goldwait reached base four times with two singles and two walks.
