GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will visit Elon Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.

The Paladins (5-2) are ranked 37th nationally in this week's ITA poll. Furman opened the season with a 4-3 win over No. 22 Alabama then defeated North Florida, 7-0, and Appalachian State, 5-2, to conclude January's play. The Paladins beat UNC Asheville, 5-2, to begin February's action then fell at 39th-ranked Wake Forest, 4-1, prior to a 4-0 win over James Madison, followed by a loss on the road to 27th-ranked Virginia Tech.
Furman seniors Sara Snyder and Ellie Schulson rank 58th nationally in doubles. The Furman duo boasts a 9-1 record, including a 6-1 mark in spring dual matches at flight one. Snyder and Schulson teamed up for a 6-0 victory over Alabama and a 6-3 win at Wake Forest. Â
Senior Jess Dawson and sophomore Macy Hitchcock are ranked 64th nationally with a 7-2 overall record and a 5-1 spring dual mark. Dawson and Hitchcock also defeated Alabama, 6-3, and Wake Forest, 6-3, in early season matches.
Elon is also 5-2 and will face both Shaw and Salem on Saturday before entertaining the Paladins on Sunday. Most recently, the Phoenix dropped a 4-0 decision at Charlotte. Elon beat Belmont Abbey, both 7-0, in two matches earlier in the month. The Paladins last squared off against the Phoenix in 2019, when Furman posted a 7-0 victory in Greenville to take a 16-3 lead in the series.Â
Furman concluded the 2024 season with a 6-1 Southern Conference record and advanced to the finals of the league championships for the seventh-consecutive time. Snyder was selected to the All-SoCon first team for singles, while Schulson and Hitchcock were named to the first team for doubles. Grace Thomas was honored with an All-SoCon second team citation at flight four singles, and Marissa Pennings was voted to the second team at flight six singles. In doubles, Furman's Dawson, Snyder, and Thomas earned second-team honors. Â
