Furman Outlasts UT Martin In Extra Innings, 2-1

Burroughs Delivers Walk-Off Double, Scott Fans 10 Batters

Greenville, S.C. – Senior Lauralee Scott fanned a career-high 10 batters and junior Sylvia Burroughs delivered a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Furman to a 2-1 victory over UT Martin on day two of the Paladin Softball Invitational Friday at Pepsi Stadium.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth, freshman Kate Stoltzfus worked a one-out walk and moved into scoring position on freshman Madison Petty's single up the middle. Burroughs followed by driving a 2-1 pitch off the right-center field fence to plate the winning run and give Furman (1-1) its first win of the 2025 season.

Relief pitcher Angelina Ricciardi (1-0) tossed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to earn her first win of the season after Scott limited the Skyhawks to just one run on three hits over seven innings of work. Andsley Chiang collected two hits for the Paladins while Burroughs earned a base on balls and a double. Stoltzfus, who scored the winning run, drew a pair of walks in her second collegiate game.

Left-hander Natalie Kreuzinger (0-1) suffered the loss for the Skyhawks, allowing a run on two hits and two walks over 1.1 innings in relief.

Furman got on the board first in the third inning when Chaing singled, moved to third base with the help of another single and a walk, and scored on a wild pitch. UT Martin answered in the top of the sixth with its lone run of the night. Kyla Harley broke up Scott's no-hit bid with a leadoff single, stole second base, and scored on Alli Robinson's base hit. Scott, however retired the next three batters to strand the go-ahead run on base.

The Paladin Invitational continues Saturday with five more game at Pepsi Stadium beginning at 9:30 a.m. Furman is set to host Stonehill in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to all games at Pepsi Stadium.
