Furman Takes On High Point Friday In Big South Semifinals

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The third-seeded Furman women's lacrosse team looks to clinch a spot in the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship game on Friday when it takes on No. 2 seed High Point in the semifinals at 7 p.m. from Mercer's Five Star Stadium in Macon, Ga.

The Paladins (14-3) opened postseason play on Tuesday defeating No. 6 seed Gardner-Webb, 19-5, in the first round of the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship at Paladin Stadium. Furman outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs 34-18 in the contest while holding a 21-19 advantage in ground balls and 15-12 in draws. The Paladins forced Gardner-Webb into 19 turnovers.

Paige Harman led Furman with a game high seven points on four goals and three assists while Anna Roser contributed six points on four goals and two assists. Sofija Buzelis compiled five goals and six draws and Skylar Hilmer won five draws. Defensively, Andrea Fisher, who became the Paladins' all-time caused turnover leader in the contest, registered a career high five caused turnovers and matched her career best of five ground balls.

Goalie Madigan Brewer improved to 11-0 on the season after recording seven saves, two ground balls, and one caused turnover.

High Point is the second seed in the Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship after concluding the regular season tied for first with Furman and Mercer and boasts an 11-5 overall record while finishing 7-1 in the conference. The Panthers are under the direction of 15th-year head coach Lyndsey Boswell.

The Paladins are facing High Point for the seventh time in program history with the Panthers owning a 6-1 lead in the all-time series. High Point topped Furman in the first meeting this season, 18-11, on April 4 in High Point, N.C.

The winner of Friday's semifinal matchup will face either No. 1 Mercer or No. 4 Wofford in the championship game on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
