INDEPENDENCE, MINN. -- Furman seniors Clark Akers (+4) and Zach Frazer (+4) tied for 20th to help the Paladins to a share of eighth place to conclude the Gopher Invitational Monday at the par 71, 7,464 yard Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.
Akers, a native of Nashville, Tenn., eagled his final hole, the par-5 No. 9, and added birdies on No. 7 and No. 10 to finish the day with a 73, moving six spots up the leader board, while Frazer, who hails from Coppell, Texas, carded a 74 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 11 in the final round. Â
Senior Harris Barth (+5) played a flawless round Monday to pace Furman. He fired a 69 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 8 to tie for 32nd, while freshman Ludvig Josefsson (+7) shot even par with a birdie on No. 5 to tie for 38th. Redshirt sophomore Walter Anderson (+14) recorded an even 71 with a team-high three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, to move into a tie for 68th.Â
Frankie Harris (-8) of South Carolina, Aaron Pounds (-8) of Texas A&M, and Iowa State's Paul Veauvy (-8) shared the individual title, while the Aggies (E) won the team title by seven strokes over the Gamecocks. West Virginia (+9) finished third, while Louisville (+11) and Iowa State (+11) tied for fourth. The Paladins (+17) tied for eighth with Little Rock (+17), beating out Power 4 opponents Nebraska (+18 - tenth), Wisconsin (+19 - 11th), and Rutgers (+19 - 13th). Â
The Paladins will compete at the Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sept. 15-16.
